Heavy Skies

I am standing in the doorway

Sheltered from the down pouring rain

Under the porch canopy

Looking out into the street.

I know that somewhere

Night is settling in pelts of red and orange

But over me the skies are all grey matter –

Thick cotton clouds are all I can see.

***

It is a warm day of summer

My skin is moist from the heavy heat.

My clothes feel uncomfortably tight –

Second skin plasters hastily applied

To hide my reality

Wrinkled and tensed

Straps of cloth damp enough to soak

Through my organic outer layer.

***

There is a woody scent in the air.

Muddy soil and drenched asphalt

Hinting through – I breathe it in

I offer my hand to the weeping skies

The fresh drops are flirting with me

Sharp tears hitting and splashing

Exquisitely gliding on my shell

Leaving no trace on my relieved flesh.

    1. *smiling* Thank you, N. Words and nature are my only lovers at the moment, so what can I say, I give in to them with all I have. 🙂

The last lines instill such vivacity in the entire poem. As if the ‘you’ in the piece just underwent a soul cleanse. You’ve created such vivid images B, the grey matter cloud laden skies – wonderful writing! And that earthy, musky aroma lingering throughout the piece, so intoxicating! Well done Sparkle. 🙂
