Ever Growing Soul

Her reflection casts

The beauty of an old soul

Long travelled and wise

This haiku was inspired by the words of one of my 9th grade students. She told me “Madame, vous avez voyagé non? Vous avez le visage de quelqu’un qui voyage.” which means “Madam, you have travelled, haven’t you? You have the face of a traveller.”

Of course I asked her what gave me away and she said “Je sais pas. Les gens qui voyagent ont quelque chose de différent sur leur visage et dans leur présence. Du calme. Je le sens c’est tout.” which means “I don’t know. There is something different on the faces of people who travel, in the way they are too. I can feel it. That’s all.” (Betül, 3e5, Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017)
