Creativity is a voice
that you call to.
It is right there,
‘t sings inside of you.
You just have to
learn how to reach
out to it, hold,
and pull it through.
Yesterday, I read this amazing article questioning the genesis of creativity, written by Thompson Crowley, a British singer-song writer, a writer and an artist, whose voice and work I recently stumbled upon and appreciate very much. Here is an excerpt of my favourite lines from his article.
“[Creativity] seems to come from nowhere, to arise out of empty ashes; sporadically, uninvited and randomly. It taps on your door with an invisible fist, knocking out any loose teeth in the process. It cannot be pinned down. It cannot be labelled. It is wild like the beast, gesticulating madly in its fits of freedom; unbound by any mere measurement. We respect it cautiously, frightened that it might flee.”
If you want more food for thought on this topic, help yourself and have a read. Click here to access Thompson’s Crowley’s post.

An interesting view on creativity, looks like we’re all crazy !!

Hey Ivor! Do you mean that about Thompson’s view or mine, or both? ^^

Haha, no not you, but if you like , we’re all completely in one way or another

Agreed 🙂 We all are crazy in our own way. That is part of what makes us individually so interesting I think.

Don’t think too much, as Thompson’s trying to say, creativity comes out untapped from within

Creativity itself, yes. Then it often needs to be refined a bit, for the message to shape itself and get across through art.

My art’s very basic and raw, and quite unabridged from my heart and the depths of my soul, and sometimes I cry buckets of tears while I’m writing and there’s wet tissues flying everywhere.. hehe…

❤ You are so touching! Your art is beautiful. I don't believe it is basic. It is forged through practice, sensitivity and talent.

You are too kind to me, thanks, probably an age thing and experience. Talking of which, have you read works by Margret Atwood, a Canadian, 78 years old and still writing the best poems, look her up….

Yes 🙂 I am familiar with her work. I have her precious “The Handmaid’s Tale” in my library. I haven’t read her poetry though, so I will follow your advice right away 🙂 Thank you for your valued guidance 🙂

The moment when, after many years
of hard work and a long voyage
you stand in the centre of your room,
house, half-acre, square mile, island, country,
knowing at last how you got there,
and say, I own this,
is the same moment when the trees unloose
their soft arms from around you,
the birds take back their language,
the cliffs fissure and collapse,
the air moves back from you like a wave
and you can’t breathe.
No, they whisper. You own nothing.
You were a visitor, time after time
climbing the hill, planting the flag, proclaiming.
We never belonged to you.
You never found us.
It was always the other way round.
The moment, Margaret Atwood

That’s true. We’ve all got the magic but we need to find it within us.

Such a precious magic too 🙂 Creativity is very unique and can take so many different forms within us from one person to another ❤ Have a beautiful day, Stella ❤

My day is absorbed in writing a post, but it is very nice, thank you for asking. I thought I would spend a minute or two creating it. I ended up writing a full blown essay on one of my favourite painters… haha ^^ Of course, I will record another text or two for you 🙂

Fabulous! The thought does often cross my mind, “what if this is my last creative moment”. But then, a random flood of expression out of the blue. I’m sure this happens to us all. 😊

What if this idea I just had and just lost instantly never comes back again? It would change the whole story, but then isn’t it how life works? forgetting, surprising, losing, finding back or moving on, it is just the most precious mechanic of chance and experience on an organic wheel.

Indeed! And this is the essence of originality! Our random thoughts, sometimes as elusive as a wild bird never to return. Wonderful really!

That is what makes it so precious when we can express and blissfully bask in our creativity. I get such a high whenever I write something I really like, or something that surprises me. It is like finding a treasure within. A part of you, you never even you knew you had in the first place. It is wonderful 🙂
