Lone Islands Crashing

She felt animated – her heart brimming with emotions,
as if it were about to explode.

The liquid joy coursing through her veins
made her feel like she could take on the world.

She wanted to endure that sweet pain of uncertainty
a little longer – not yet daring to hope for more.

***

Irresistible discomfort, unsettling companion.

Their cramped entrails were unleashing
jumbled pieces of peace flags on their shores,
showing them the way, but not quite giving it away.

***

Being around him had brought about
a new sort of havoc to her life.

***
Being around her made him feel refreshed, challenged,
as if his perspectives had been dormant before.

Suddenly it all made sense.

***

Together hand in hand, they were figuring it out, bright awake,
sitting in the sun of a terrace, gleefully smiling.

They were assembling a nub of scrambled segments,
irresistibly shaping their third entity with puzzled faces,
not quite ready to believe their bond was really happening.

Giving it their all, slowly but surely,
they were building their new reality,
cores ablaze with the tender flames of newfound purpose.

***

They were bursting with incandescent joy,
anticipation savoured in the moment.

There is such a sense of awakening optimism in your words. The dawn of new adventures; it’s almost as if spring has begun in the poet’s soul. Charming to contemplate, and joyously read dear one!

    1. Thank you my lovely friend 😊 It was a sweet morning write. It came to me as soon as I woke up. Then I just edited a few things and I had a poem 🙂

The spontaneous, inspired writes that tumble like that are the very best! As if a divine force is moving your fingers and channeling thoughts. Ah, wondrous stuff!

  3. It’s another lovely image that you’ve painted here. Two Lone Islands coming together gives a picture of hope in an unexpected love that is impossible to come away from without being filled with the same joy the island experiences.
I love the play, jumping between both sides of the story. It adds another layer to the moment, giving the sense of a feedback loop between the souls (nope, can’t stay away from engineering references) where one’s happiness is feeding the others which feeds the first’s until they both “burst with incandescent joy” to steal your phrase.
And then there’s the awkwardness between them, surrendering bits and pieces of themselves as they learn each other, and the mutual disbelief after both have very possibly given up hope and so many others. Each line is a package wrapped with a little bow waiting to be opened and released. Together they form a wonderful work of art. I love it 💞.
I knew I’d find my words sooner or later 😄.
