Key Stroke

Today – and every day since I was born – I have lived my life to the fullest. I lived it that way, because I knew it would end soon, precisely when the timer on my neck would stop. This also meant I knew that it would not stop any other time – unless I threw myself in front of a moving train or something violent enough to damage me beyond repair.

Lizzie – my best friend, the one I called today as I mentioned above – is human. She is torn about my upcoming scheduled unplugging. She wasted weeks, months of her life in lawyering battles trying to get Machines to gain a longer timespan. She thinks twenty years is way too short.

In exactly two hours someone will press a key and send my consciousness back to the stream of data that gave it birth. It will merge with the rest and be a particle in this giant AI pool.

This is the second excerpt of a short story I wrote as part of Mug’s Tale’s 20th Weekly Writing Workshop.

Thank you for your interest <3,

Sincerely,

Hailie.

    1. Thank you for reading and taking the time to share your impressions. I really appreciate it.

Using a first person narrative can be surprising, especially when my blog shares both fiction and real life experiences…

I am glad you think so ❤ many thanks for your kind compliment!

Have a fantastic Sunday, and happy blogging!

  4. Most of the fiction writing is based on real experience. The good thing about writing fiction story is that you could draw life experience from many sources: your own experience, your observation, etc. I just met a writer who wrote a fiction novel based on a real history. He even spent time to research and interview. Most of the content is very close to the actual happening, but he had the liberty to invent certain characters and details to make his novel interesting.

Wishing you a enjoyable Sunday also!

    1. I agree with you whole heartedly. A well researched book that portrays believable characters is always a nice find, especially if the writing style of the author brings that extra gem added value.

Historic background and character research are not non-fiction specific. Interviewing real people is a really clever way to approach fiction writing too.

Thank you for your kind wishes and for sharing your experience. As I said, I agree with you 100 per cent. 🙂
      Have a wonderful evening!
